What ADCD approval means when you appoint a contractor

Approval and licence class are not paperwork formalities. They decide whether your completion certificate is accepted.

what adcd approval means when you appoint a contractor

Every fire protection enquiry in Abu Dhabi eventually reaches the same question: is the contractor approved by Abu Dhabi Civil Defence, and what licence class do they hold? It is worth understanding what those two answers actually govern, because they affect your programme far more than they affect your price.

Approval is about who may sign off the work

ADCD approval means the authority recognises the company to design, install and maintain fire protection systems within its scope. Work installed by a company without that recognition can be technically sound and still fail at inspection, because the submission itself is not accepted. The cost of that is not the rework, it is the delay to handover.

Licence class is about scale

The licence class bounds the size and type of project a contractor may take on. Fire Base holds an A-class licence, which is the band tender documents most often ask for on commercial, industrial and larger residential work. Ask for the class in writing at pre-qualification rather than after award.

Three things to ask for before you sign

  • The current approval certificate, with its expiry date, not a scan from a previous year
  • The licence class, checked against what your tender documents require
  • Who will actually sign the submission drawings, and whether they sit inside the company

A contractor who cannot produce those three within a working day is telling you something useful.

Where this bites hardest

Fit-out projects. A tenant fit-out often changes sprinkler head positions, detection layout and travel distances, and it is treated as a fresh submission. Teams that treated the base build approval as covering the fit-out lose weeks at exactly the point when the lease has already started.

Our approval documents are available on request at tender or pre-qualification stage. See our certifications or request the pack.
